In a missive to Konkan Divisional Commissioner, the High Court appointed authority to check mangrove protection, NGO Shree Ekvira Aai Pratishtan (SEAP) has drawn his attention to massive destruction of wetlands.
"Your urgent intervention in needed since, despite honble Mumbai high court order, reclamation still continues," SEAP head Nandakumar Pawar said.
As much as 75% of Dastan node wetland is already reclaimed by JNPT by blocking of tidal water flow to this wetland.
"This reclamation is being carried out for 12.5 % scheme for project affected people it is contempt and open violations of honble Mumbai high court’s order," Pawar said and requested for urgent steps to stop further reclamation immediately before entire wetland ( 250 acres) becomes a history," he said.
He also called for filing an FIR against the culprits and removal of all debris dumped and restoration of the site to its original status.
