The #BoomCityDoomCity campaign launched on the Earth Day has now transformed into #MumbaiSuffersWhoCares as a group of activists and NGOs have intensified the drive to focus on the degradation of environment in Mumbai Meyropolitan region (MMR).
The NatureConnect’s endeavour is to further spread the word and obtain as many signatures as possible for its online petition address to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
“Let us not wait for the Environment Day to raise our voice. Let us consider everyday as the environment day,” said The NatureConnect’s Editor in Chief B N Kumar.
“Nobody seem to care for Mumbai,” laments Nandakumar, founder director of Agri Ekavira Aai Pratishtan (SEAP) which has taken up cudgels to protect the city’s environment.
Hills and mangroves are being systematically destroyed. After Parsik Hill’s destruction, now quarry operators have turned on to hills at Jasai in Panvel taluka creating dust pollution and blasting the hills, he said.
Both The NatureConnect and SEAP have stressed that they are not against infrastructure development which is a must for socio-economic growth. But it should not come with destruction of environment and damage to the ecological balance.
The NatureConnect has requested all to sign the change.org petition by clicking on this link: https://www.change.org/p/focus-on-environmental degradation-on-environment-day-and- everyday?recruiter=29763990&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium= copylink&utm_campaign=share_petition
“We owe it to our children. Let us pass on the nature that we inherited to the next generation without much damage,” said Kumar.
