Hon’ble Prime Minister sir,
Greetings from NatConnect Foundation ahead of the World Migratory Bird Day being observed on October 11.
We congratulate you on the speedy implementation of GST reforms.
We appeal to you to conserve India’s wetlands with the same urgency and determination that marked the rollout of the Next Gen GST reforms.
The UN-driven WMBD 2025 theme – “Shared Spaces: Creating bird-friendly cities & communities” – underlines the importance of wetlands, which serve as vital stopovers for migratory birds.
Migratory birds, sir, are “ambassadors of biodiversity” that aid seed dispersal, pollination, and pest control, while also boosting eco-tourism, education, and livelihoods.
However, rapid urban expansion and human activities are threatening their survival.
We urge you to expedite the notification and conservation of more than two lakh wetlands above 2.25 hectares, already mapped in ISRO’s National Wetland Inventory Assessment.

While the Ministry of Environment has published the atlas, actual protection remains stalled due to pending “ground-truthing” by states.
Without official notification, wetlands are treated as developable land parcels—a dangerous trend.
Sir, you have championed global environmental campaigns like LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), and we request you to impress upon the States to conserve our wertlands..
We highly appreciate your past remarks that “wetlands are very important for the existence of our Earth, as many birds and animals depend on them. Along with enriching biodiversity, they ensure flood control and groundwater recharge.”
Wetlands deserve GST-like policy speed to safeguard India’s ecological heritage.
